Big Tree Planting

Our Workday on Saturday Sept. 29th. was all about Planting.
Thanks to DOC, especially Paul Cashmore and Katrina Knill, the Society was given 650 native trees and shrubs to plant in the central portion of the Reserve, alongside the Ynys Fraser Walkway.
The plants, which had been grown and nurtured at Treeline Native Nursery, included Flaxes, Mountain Toe Toe, Cabbage Trees, Pittosporums, Manuka, Kanuka, and Hebes.
They were collected from Treeline on Friday afternoon by a small group of Committee members, then delivered into the planting area on Sat. morning.

A group of 25 volunteers turned up at the Carpark for work at 9.30 am. on Saturday.
After the usual work and Safety briefings, the team walked up to the top end of the Central portion where the first 150 plants had already been laid out. We then worked our way back toward the tributary stream, with the job done and dusted before midday.
Lunch was then provided back at the Douglas’s.

Sincere thanks to all those who turned out to ensure the planting was completed.

Sincere thanks also to DOC for the donation of plants, which will grow to enhance the Reserve even further.
John Rainbow,
President HSIS.
